The Irish Government is in the process of establishing a new state-owned water company. This company will be responsible for the installation of water meters at households connected to the public water supply network. A process for the procurement of Regional Main Contractors will be run by the new water company in due course.
Pending the establishment of this new utility company, and to facilitate the participation of small to medium enterprises in this important project, the DECLG has advertised for the creation of a panel of subcontractors.
The panel of subcontractors will be made available to the main contractors when the regional contracts are being tendered.
Neither the DECLG nor the new water company will be awarding any contracts on foot of this Qualification System.
It is anticipated that this Qualification System will provide an opportunity to small and medium enterprises to obtain subcontracts, by allowing them to provide information on their capabilities to the Regional Main Contractors. However, as the final choice of subcontractor is a matter for the RMCs, inclusion on a panel of qualified subcontractors does not guarantee any subcontract will be awarded.
